KINDRED SPIRIT
SIGMA 38
KINDRED SPIRIT is a Sigma 38 OOD, one-design racer/cruiser. Sigma 38s are fast, comfortable, solid cruisers capable of serious offshore racing, and Kindred is fitted out to MCA Cat 2 coding.
Sigma 38s are exceptional all-around yachts. They are easy to handle both under sail and power and still offer fast, sprightly performance and excellent ability under sail.
Down below, she has a large chart table, supplemented on our yacht by the latest navigation aids, including a chart plotter and advanced vessel identification system (AIS). There are ten berths, two double aft cabins, four main saloon berths, and a double fore cabin, with heating outlets in all cabins from the onboard heater.
The Sigma 38 is one of the few yachts that combines racing excitement and comfortable cruising. Although designed in the late 80s, its racing pedigree speaks for itself. Imagine lining up on the start line with at least ten other identical yachts. Why not join and get involved in the racing?
History
In 1985, the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Royal Thames Yacht Club agreed to sponsor a new One Design and commissioned top yacht designers, including Rob Humphries, Stephen Jones, and David Thomas. The designers put forward proposals to some of the top yachtsmen of the day, and the decision was made to adopt the design of David Thomas, who had already designed the successful Sigma 33. Built by Marine Projects in Plymouth with a sail wardrobe from North Sails, the Sigma 38 became extremely popular. Marine Projects built a total of 124 yachts. Northshore Yachts at Itchenor built the last Sigma 38 in 1993.
